BGCOLOR=#000033 HEIGHT= 1314 WIDTH="648"><div> On July 18th nearly 100 family members and friends gathered in Maurepas, LA to pay tribute to Thomas V. (Tom) Carl in recognition of his 100th birthday.  Several came forward to relate how Tom impacted their life.  During the celebration he was presented with the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal, an American flag flown over the US Capitol and letters from Governor Jindal and President Obama.</div> <bR> <div> Tom served in the military from March 1942 to November 1945.  The map in the birthday photo of Tom is the silk map of Holland, Belgium, France and Germany that he carried with him through much of his tour of duty.  That tour included the Battle of the Bulge and crossing the Rhine as a paratrooper in the 17th  Airborne.  One of the guests at the celebration was Larry Lynch, Jr., son of the Headquarters Commandant Major Lynch under whom First Sergeant Carl served while in the 82nd Airborne.  He also served in the 17th and 101st Airborne Divisions.</div> <bR> <div> Below is the statement taken from the general orders awarding the Bronze Star Medal to Sgt.
